Biography
Among Europe’s most controversial, yet most successful porn film directors, John Thompson is from Munich (Germany). Prior to founding own production company, ‘John Thompson Productions’, in 1997, he studied psychology and art history in Berlin. He also worked for numerous television productions and, from 1994, as a director and cameraman for German porn label ‘Puaka’ (among several other titles, the film THE CONSUL is attributed to Thompson). The major characteristics of a modern John Thompson film are cumswapping, reckless facials and squirts by several men on the face of an actress (‘Bukkake’) or directly into her mouth (‘Gokkun’). Secondly, rough anal sex and lesbian practices play a central role. The actresses in films by John Thompson are often German amateurs or newcomers from Europe. Only rarely are more familiar actresses used. But John Thompson launched several actresses such as Annette Schwarz and Maren Beautte to an international career and the legendary Betty G. to a kind of cult status.

Both 666 and SexBox titles are illegal in Switzerland and have even caused Germany problems several times: ‘Sexbox 15’ for example, was banned. A handful of these films have made it to the UK where they have only rarely been cut. As well as several titles (with English translated titles but German dialogue), at least four volumes of GGG triple-bills are available in licensed sex shops around the country.

Another often seen feature of these series is that the director (Thompson), during the action, again and again asks questions to the actress. This gives additional authenticity to the event. Thompson himself is often heard but rarely seen.

He is said to have influenced the American porn scene (such as directors Brandon Iron and Mike John) though in Europe he has faced a lot of resentment and criticism. He was accused by a wide stratum of society as having a crude and misogynistic style. However, despite (or perhaps because of) its special positioning, the work of John Thompson has a big market and is of great global interest, via DVDs and via his website. Although Thompson films are produced for a male audience, there are some women who like his gloomy aesthetic. The popularity of his films might be due to the fact that it represents an incomparable directness, showing sexuality in all its animal instincts. This is possibly a good thing as the acts shown are perceived as otherwise socially unacceptable. Through his films, the viewer can experience otherwise intolerable actions safely. Pandora’s box still works!

No other porn production company has generated so many rumors. Mafia-like methods are discussed among fans on Internet forums; many stories glide off into the land of fantasy. Of course, Thompson is champion on the set (he’s quite often wrongly called an authoritarian screamer), but to keep the GGG fuck-machine running reasonably smoothly, one would have to get loud on one or two occasions! What is certain is that John Thompson’s actresses, on the whole, are treated fairly. Mostly they reply to newspaper advertisements for a photo shoot in lingerie. These shootings clarify, by means of a questionnaire, whether the girls might be interested in taking intimate photographs or more. Some girls might be attracted by the sign “Earn €1250 in 8 hours” in the entrance area of ​​the studio… There are even girls (like Cissie and Marina) who, alongside their film career, already worked as prostitutes. In August 2009, John Thompson was on a charge relating to the ‘production of pornography of violence’ (which includes rape, etc. and is therefore illegal). Exactly who brought these charges to court against JT, or which titles in his many films they were referring to, is unclear. In February 2010, as Thompson moved to Munich, he was finally convicted of ‘production and distribution of violent pornography’ and was fined €75,000. The judge claimed JT’s work in question was ‘the glorification and trivialisation of violence’. The prosecutor had demanded a year’s imprisonment on probation. Seemingly, the only punishment was the fine as John Thompson has now produced new porn movies in the same vein as before. Thompson married one of his stars, Viktoria, in 2010.
